Family Fundays - Interactive Storytelling at Theatricum

Gather ’round on a Sunday morning for an hour of interactive storytelling, music, and friendship on the mainstage. Designed with kids younger than 8 and their families in mind, but open to all ages!

How to Catch a Hobgoblin
Folklore, fairies, and make-believe!
The mischievous hobgoblin Puck is beholden to no one! But according to legend, if you can catch him, he'll do your bidding! Meanwhile, Oberon, King of the Fairies, is on the prowl for a new minion... Join us on an adventure into English folklore as we learn all about hobgoblins—also known as brownies, dobbies, and hobs, all great inspirations to William Shakespeare for the characters in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The Fisherman and the Genie
Wishes, wits, and whimsy!
A fisherman pulls a strange bottle from the sea, and out pops a mighty genie. Face to face with such a powerful being, can you help the fisherman stay one step ahead? We’ll need your ideas, your laughter, and maybe even a wish or two to turn the tide in this legendary tale from One Thousand and One Nights.

What’s in a name? Mischief and magic!
There's an imp causing trouble, and the only way to stop him is to guess his name. But don’t worry, the miller’s daughter has a whole team of heroes on her side: you! Listen closely, follow the clues, and help us solve the riddle that will outsmart the trickster and turn this tale around.

The Ballad of Tam Lin
A shape-shifting rescue quest!
Tam Lin is trapped by the Fairy Queen! Join Janet, a brave human girl, and come to his rescue as the spritely Queen uses her shapeshifting powers to transform Tam Lin. Can you guess what animal the trapped fairy boy will be turned into next, and help Janet save him?

The Time Thales Fell Down a Well
A silly tale of stars, smarts, and one unforgettable tumble!
Thales is an ancient stargazer. He is so busy studying the sky, he doesn’t see the well right in front of him, and splash! With silly surprises, starry skies, and plenty of playful wisdom, this story brings the cosmos a little closer to home. Can you spot the lesson in Aesop’s fable, while keeping your head in the stars and your feet planted firmly on the ground?

The Race Between Coyote and Swordfish
Underwater tricks, talking animals, and a race like no other!
Coyote’s friend Hawk was taken deep beneath the waves! He is relying on you (and a bit of magic!) to outsmart Swordfish in a race to save Hawk. Help Coyote win the race and bring his friend home in this fast-paced, playful adventure from Chumash lore.

Step into the royal court of living history, Elizabethan-style!
What would you ask if you could meet Queen Elizabeth I and William Shakespeare in person? Now’s your chance! Join us for a playful peek into the past where you can ask questions, play along, and help bring history to life.
